BACKGROUND
The era of globalization and free trade as it is today is an era of increasingly tough industrial and trade challenges and demands increased competitiveness and efficiency in work. Human resources as the main capital factor will become an urgent need, determining and becoming a priority on a national and international scale. For this reason, effective, efficient management and having high-tech facilities and infrastructure are needed as priorities that deserve attention.

Various industrial countries in the world are experiencing an increase in the need for human resources and there is a shortage of skilled and expert workers due to changes in various fields, especially in the industrial sector. On the other hand, in Indonesia there has been an increase in human resources in millions of graduates, both elementary school, junior high school, high school and college graduates who are not ready and not trained to work mentally or technically.

To anticipate the development trends and demands for human resource capabilities in the future, especially the Indonesian nation, Batam must create capabilities that are relevant to changes in needs and employment. Batam as an integrated and special development area is expected to:

Become a region that is able to compete with the outside world and its surroundings in all fields.

As a leading region with the international world, it requires various facilities and human resources who have a vision and personal and technical abilities to anticipate global developments.
Able to become an international industrial, goods, services, and tourism area that is equal to Singapore and other neighboring countries.
A dynamic higher education institution that is oriented towards the era of globalization needs to be developed by organizing national and international education programs. This institution must also be able to develop partnerships that are competitive with higher education institutions from various developed countries.

ESTABLISHMENT OF BATAM UNIVERSITY
In line with the above thinking, the founders and supporters of the Griya Husada Foundation were called to establish a University with the initial name of Abulyatama University based on the Decree of Establishment from the Director General of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number 58/D/O/2000, where the laying of the first stone for the construction of the university campus building was carried out on May 30, 2000 by Mr. DR. Satryo Soemantri Brojonegoro as the Director General of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia, who was accompanied by Mr. DR. H. Rusli Bintang as the Chairman of the Griya Husada Foundation, and Prof. Dr. H. M Nasir, as the Chancellor of Abulyatama University was inaugurated on January 26, 2001 by Dr. A. Yahya Muhaimin, who at that time served as the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia.

Then Abulyatama University changed its name to Batam University Based on the Decree (SK) of the Director General of National Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number 242/D/O/200, dated November 16, 2001 after receiving a letter of recommendation of approval from the Coordinator of Private Higher Education Region X for the West Sumatra - Riau and Jambi Regions, with the Chancellor being Prof. Chainur Arrasjid, SH. Now the Chancellor of Batam University is held by Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Novirman Jamarun, MSc

A management system, teaching and learning process, human resources, facilities, infrastructure and programs are needed, both academic programs and professional programs that are well designed and of high quality so that they are ready to face the development of the era of science and technology and are able to meet the needs of the workforce in Indonesia and abroad. Batam University strives to organize high-quality education in a system, program, activities and human resources, according to the needs of industrial activities nationally and internationally.

In addition to developing an international-scale university, Batam University has a social aspect and noble ideals, namely to "Foster and Provide for Orphans and Children of Underprivileged Families" who come from various corners of the country, especially children in Batam and its surroundings.

Batam University is one of the leading universities, the pride of the Riau Islands Province, which has received the Decree of Establishment of the Director General of the Indonesian National Education Number 58/D/O/2000 on May 4, 2000. Until now, it has grown rapidly where Batam University has 5 (five) Faculties, namely: Medicine, Economics, Law, Engineering and Health Sciences, as Study Program Management Units from 21 study programs with various levels of education in the Batam University environment, namely: Bachelor, Profession, Masters, and Doctorate.

Based on the Decree of the Director of the Executive Board of BAN-PT Number 1587/SK/BAN-PTAk.Ppj/PT/X/2022, it states that Batam University has met the Very Good Accreditation Rating Requirements. Batam University is always committed to continuing to grow and make changes in line with the developments and dynamics of the times. Among others, through partnership and collaboration programs with the Business World of Industry (DUDI), Government, Private Sector both locally, regionally, nationally, domestically and abroad.
It is undeniable that Batam University has a leading study program of pride in the Riau Islands Province, namely the Human Resource Management Doctoral Program (S-3); Doctor of Education and Doctoral Profession Study Program where both study programs have an Excellent Accreditation Rating through LAM-PTKes. Here are also some other leading study programs. The majority of study programs at Batam University have obtained Accreditation Ratings B, Very Good and Good. Therefore, this has a proud impact where the enthusiasm of prospective students has also shown an increasing trend in recent years, especially in study programs that show an increase in accreditation ratings.
In line with the Vision of Batam University "To become an international standard university in systems, programs, activities, resources and professional graduates who are able to follow the development of science and technology, and can compete in meeting quality and noble human resources", in this case we convey that Batam University has held annual scientific meetings on an international scale, including: International Conference of Economic and Management Science (ICEMS), International Conference of Human Resource and Accounting (ICHRA) organized by the Doctoral Study Program in Human Resource Management (MSDM), then the International Seminar which is also annually held periodically by the Faculty of Medicine, Batam University. Referring to the regulations and policies of the Directorate General. Dikti Kemendikbud Ristek regarding MBKM that Batam University has implemented the Independent Campus, which in recent years has shown an increasing trend in the number of students and lecturers who have participated in the MBKM Program, including the BANGKIT program, student exchange, and other partnership programs. This is also supported by the presence of several lecturers who have been appointed as Independent Campus Ambassadors in several Faculties within the Batam University environment. On this occasion, it can also be conveyed that Batam University has received funding for Research and Community Service Grants organized by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology. And no less proudly, we can convey that Batam University has received Funding from the Kedaireka Mutching Fund Program. Batam University (UNIBA) is located in the center of Batam City with easy access, close to Hang Nadim Airport and Harbor Batam Center. Batam University has a representative building equipped with a Pilot Integrated Health Laboratory for Health Education since 2009 with complete tools and supporting facilities for practicums that can be used by students and the Grand Design concept: Mini Hospital. Next is the Hj. Bunda Halimah Teaching Hospital, Rumengan Hall Auditorium Building and Graha Bintang which are also supporting facilities for activities in the Batam University environment. In addition, it is also equipped with a complete and modern Library, UNIBA Language Center, Student Dormitory, Guest House, Prayer Room, Canteen, Basketball Court, Futsal, Volleyball, etc. Academic and non-academic achievements of Batam University students are also no less proud, both at the regional, national and international levels. Batam University alumni have spread with good job positions throughout the country and human resources that have been recognized both at the regional and national levels with impressive achievements in their respective fields.
